WeChat to Label AI-Generated Content for Transparency

WeChat Introduces AI-Generated Content Identification Measures

WeChat Corals Security has unveiled a new policy to standardize the identification of artificial intelligence-generated synthetic content. According to the upcoming "Artificial Intelligence Generated Synthetic Content Identification Measures," the platform will implement both explicit and implicit identification marks on AI-generated content. This initiative, effective September 1, 2025, seeks to ensure information transparency and credibility for users.

Enhanced User Protections

The announcement underscores the need to prevent confusion or misidentification of AI-generated content during dissemination. Users posting on WeChat will be required to actively declare AI-generated content, safeguarding the public's right to know and mitigating the spread of false information.

Improved Content Recognition

WeChat has optimized its systems to better identify AI-generated content. Users encountering such content may notice explicit labels (e.g., "AI-Generated") or subtle indicators like watermarks or metadata tags. The platform will also provide contextual prompts for suspected AI-generated material, empowering users to make informed judgments.

Regulatory Framework

The "Measures" outline clear guidelines:

  • Service providers must fulfill identification responsibilities.
  • Content creators and distributors must adhere to labeling protocols.
  • Tampering with or concealing AI-content identifiers is prohibited.

These rules aim to preserve information authenticity while fostering responsible AI use.

Key Points:

  • Mandatory declaration: Users must label AI-generated posts.
  • Dual identification: Explicit/implicit markers will flag synthetic content.
  • Compliance deadline: Policies take effect September 1, 2025.
  • Anti-tampering clause: Altering identifiers violates platform rules.
