TikTok Gives Users Control Over AI Content With New Slider Feature

TikTok Empowers Users With AI Content Controls

In a move that puts more power in users' hands, TikTok has introduced a groundbreaking feature that lets you control how much AI-generated content appears in your feed. The new "AIGC" slider, found within the "Manage Topics" tool, offers four settings ranging from "less" to "more" AI content.

How the Slider Works

The system doesn't block AI content entirely - instead, it intelligently reorders your recommendations based on your preference. Think of it like adjusting the temperature on your shower: you get to find just the right mix for your comfort level. This global rollout comes as TikTok responds to similar initiatives from tech giants like Meta and OpenAI.

Fighting Deepfakes With Hidden Watermarks

But TikTok isn't stopping at user controls. The platform is testing cutting-edge "invisible watermark" technology that embeds hidden markers detectable only by TikTok's systems. These digital fingerprints will appear on:

  • Content created with TikTok's AI Editor Pro
  • Uploads containing C2PA Content Credentials

The watermarks form part of a three-layer identification system alongside visible labels and existing metadata, designed to survive editing and reuploading - a crucial defense against manipulated media.

Educating the Next Generation

Recognizing that technology alone isn't enough, TikTok announced a $2 million "AI Literacy Fund" partnership with organizations including Girls Who Code. Starting spring 2026, these programs will teach teens crucial skills like:

  • Spotting sophisticated deepfakes
  • Understanding how recommendation algorithms work
  • Developing critical thinking about online content

The initiative reflects growing concerns about AI's impact on young social media users.

Key Points:

  • Customizable feeds: New slider lets you control AI content visibility
  • Enhanced transparency: Invisible watermarks join existing labeling systems
  • Digital literacy: $2M fund aims to educate teens about deepfakes
  • Global rollout: Features coming worldwide in coming weeks
