Meituan CEO Sees AI Agents Outshining ChatGPT in Impact

Meituan's Vision: Why AI Agents Trump ChatGPT

At Meituan's March 2026 management meeting, CEO Wang Xing dropped a striking analogy about artificial intelligence's disruptive potential. "If mobile internet were roses and traditional internet peonies," he mused, "then AI would be the monkey shaking the whole garden."

The Scale of Disruption

Wang, who witnessed both internet and mobile revolutions firsthand, contends AI's impact will eclipse both. "This isn't just another tech wave - it's rewriting the rulebook," he told executives. What makes him so certain? His personal experience with AI Agents versus ChatGPT.

"ChatGPT amazed me," Wang admitted, "but AI Agents changed how I work and think." He sees them not as tools but as collaborators that could transform organizational structures and productivity metrics across industries.

Bridging the Digital-Physical Divide

The Meituan chief highlighted a critical gap in current AI systems: their limited real-world awareness. "Even Einstein wouldn't know restaurant availability as a secretary," Wang illustrated. "It's not about intelligence - it's about information access."

This insight drives Meituan's aggressive investments in physical-world digitization. The company launched multiple AI applications last year and developed proprietary large language models. Their Spring Festival debut of "Wen Xiao Tuan" - an AI search product enhancing customer service - offers just a taste of what's coming.

Future-Proofing Through Infrastructure

Wang revealed ambitious 2025 plans to bolster real-time information infrastructure. This move aims to give AI systems the contextual awareness they currently lack when making decisions or recommendations.

For businesses hesitating on AI adoption, Wang offered blunt advice: "Resistance isn't just futile - it's irresponsible leadership." He emphasized that companies ignoring this shift risk becoming irrelevant in their own industries.

Key Points:

  • AI's impact surpasses internet revolutions according to Meituan's CEO
  • AI Agents influence Wang more personally than ChatGPT's capabilities
  • Physical world digitization forms the next frontier for practical AI applications
  • Meituan developing proprietary models while expanding real-time data infrastructure
