Tencent's WorkBuddy Gets Smarter: Now Plays Nice With WeChat

Tencent Supercharges Its Desktop AI Assistant

WorkBuddy, Tencent's answer to workplace automation, just got a major upgrade that finally bridges the gap between AI assistants and how teams actually communicate.

The standout feature? One-tap WeChat integration. Now employees can scan a QR code from their phones to remotely control WorkBuddy on their office computers - no more switching between devices when inspiration strikes during lunch.

Under the Hood Improvements

The update isn't just about convenience. Tencent rebuilt the connection infrastructure:

  • Added Enterprise WeChat WebSocket support for rock-solid remote access
  • Smoothed out integrations with QQ and Feishu
  • Cut reconnection times when networks hiccup

But the real game-changer might be the new automated workflows. WorkBuddy can now:

  • Generate scheduled reports while you sleep
  • Track competitor moves automatically
  • Organize meeting notes without human prompting

"We're moving beyond simple Q&A," explains Zhang Jun from Tencent's PR team. "This turns WorkBuddy from a chatbot into something closer to an AI coworker."

Why This Matters Now

The timing isn't accidental. As large language models mature, tech firms are racing to plant flags where AI meets daily work:

  • Microsoft bets on Copilot living in Office apps
  • Google bakes AI into Workspace
  • Tencent plays to its strength - China's ubiquitous messaging platforms

The strategy seems clear: make AI assistants invisible by embedding them where work already happens.

The upgraded WorkBuddy rolls out today at codebuddy.cn/work/.
