Perplexity's Comet AI Browser Lands on Android with Smart Features
Perplexity Brings Its AI Browser to Android Phones
Mobile users can now experience Perplexity's innovative Comet browser, which first debuted on desktop computers last July. The Android version packs the same artificial intelligence that's changing how people search and browse online.
Smarter Searching in Your Pocket
The Comet browser transforms your phone into a research assistant. Set it as your default search engine, then simply @mention the built-in AI helper whenever you have questions.
"We're giving people superpowers," explains Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas. "Now you can talk to your browser like a knowledgeable friend who shows their work."
Hands-Free Help When You Need It
Stuck cooking dinner but need information? Comet's voice mode lets you ask questions about open tabs without touching your phone. The assistant will read summaries aloud while you multitask - perfect for busy lifestyles.
The ad-blocking feature creates cleaner browsing too. "Nobody likes pop-ups," laughs product lead Denis Yarats. "We're removing distractions so you focus on what matters."
Coming Attractions
The development team promises exciting updates:
- A conversational AI that searches entire websites at once
- Custom shortcuts for your favorite assistant commands
- Built-in password manager for security-conscious users
The desktop version recently gained spreadsheet integration - expect similar productivity boosts coming to mobile.
Why Android First?
While iPhone users wait patiently, Perplexity prioritized Android due to strong interest from device makers. Some Motorola phones already ship with Comet preinstalled through special partnerships.
The company confirms iOS development is underway but won't commit to timelines yet.
The New Browser Wars Begin
Perplexity joins OpenAI and Opera in betting big on AI browsers. But security experts warn these powerful tools need robust safeguards against emerging threats.
The company acknowledges these concerns in recent blog posts, pledging continuous security improvements as attack methods evolve.
Key Points:
- Android launch brings Comet's AI smarts to mobile devices
- Voice commands let you search hands-free while cooking or driving
- Ad-free browsing creates cleaner reading experiences
- Coming soon: Whole-site searches and customizable shortcuts
