Nadella Reveals How GPT-5 Powers His Leadership with Copilot

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has unveiled his personal use of GPT-5 and Microsoft Copilot as core leadership tools, demonstrating how AI is transforming executive workflows. In a LinkedIn post on August 28, Nadella shared five specific AI-driven prompts that help him manage time, make strategic decisions, and boost productivity.

AI as an Executive Assistant

Nadella highlighted how Copilot, integrated with Microsoft 365, acts as a supercharged administrative assistant. One of his key prompts focuses on meeting preparation:

"Tell me the top five things to consider for the next meeting based on my previous interactions with [person]."

This instruction directs Copilot to scan emails, chats, and meeting notes to generate a prioritized list for upcoming discussions.

Project Management Reinvented

Another prompt showcases Copilot’s ability to synthesize scattered data into cohesive updates:

"Draft a project update based on all meetings in emails, chat records, and and objectives, wins and losses, risks, competitive initiatives, as well as potential tricky issues and answers."

The tool compiles key metrics, risks, and stakeholder concerns into a single report—saving hours of manual analysis.

Data-Driven Decision Making

Nadella also uses Copilot for quantitative assessments:

"Are we on track to launch (the product) in November? Check engineering progress, pilot results, and risks. Give me a probability."

The AI analyzes engineering data and feedback to provide probabilistic forecasts, aiding critical launch decisions.

Time Management Insights

To optimize his schedule, Nadella employs:

"Review my calendar and emails from last month and create 5-7 buckets for the projects I spent the most time on, along with the percentage of time spent and a brief description."

This reveals discrepancies between strategic priorities and actual time allocation.

Meeting Briefings Made Effortless

The final example streamlines pre-meeting prep:

"Review [select email] + prepare for the next meeting in [series] based on past discussions with managers and teams."

Copilot extracts historical context to create tailored briefings, ensuring leaders are always prepared.

Key Points:

  • GPT-5 + Copilot acts as a 24/7 executive assistant, analyzing communications for actionable insights.
  • Meeting prep is streamlined by AI-generated priority lists based on past interactions.
  • Project updates are automated by synthesizing emails, chats, and KPIs into reports.
  • Quantitative decision-making is enhanced with probabilistic forecasts from engineering data.
  • Time audits uncover misalignments between goals and actual time investment.
