Google Enhances Workspace with AI Image Editing Tools

Google has announced the integration of two advanced AI-powered image editing features into its Google Slides and Google Vids platforms. These tools, built on the Gemini AI framework, are designed to simplify background manipulation for users.

Background Replacement Feature

The first feature allows users to replace image backgrounds using simple text prompts. By selecting an image and choosing "Replace Background" from the editing options, users can describe their desired background which the system will generate automatically. This functionality is particularly valuable for:

  • Product placement in realistic environments
  • Standardizing employee avatar backgrounds

Background Expansion Capability

The second feature enables background expansion, allowing users to adapt images to different aspect ratios (such as 16:9 or 4:3) without distortion. This is especially useful for:

  • Converting vertical images to horizontal banners
  • Creating consistent visuals across presentations

Rollout Schedule and Availability

The features will be deployed in phases:

  • July 28, 2025: Rapid Release Program domains
  • August 14, 2025: All regular release users

The tools will be available to multiple Workspace subscription tiers including:

  • Business Standard/Plus
  • Enterprise Standard/Plus
  • Gemini Education/Premium subscribers
  • AI Pro/Ultra plugin users

This announcement follows Google's commitment to incorporate AI enhancements into Workspace without additional charges for Gemini plugins. Recent additions include:
