Google's Virtual Fitting Room Now Works With Just a Selfie

Google Revolutionizes Online Shopping With AI-Powered Virtual Try-Ons

Ever wished you could try on clothes without leaving your couch? Google just made that dream easier than ever with a major upgrade to its virtual fitting technology.

From Selfie to Style Icon

The tech giant announced Thursday that its AI can now create realistic full-body avatars using just a single selfie. Gone are the days of awkwardly snapping full-body photos in your bathroom mirror—the new system intelligently reconstructs your body shape using advanced algorithms from Gemini 2.5 Flash's Nano Banana image model.

"This changes everything for online shoppers," says retail analyst Maria Chen. "That mental hurdle of 'Will this look good on me?' just got much smaller."

How It Works

  1. Upload Your Selfie: A simple face photo is all you need to start
  2. Enter Your Size: The AI adjusts clothing fit based on your measurements
  3. Choose Your Pose: Multiple angle options show how garments drape and move
  4. Shop With Confidence: See exactly how items will look before buying

For those who prefer traditional methods, uploading full-body photos remains an option. The platform also offers diverse virtual models representing various body types, skin tones, and shapes.

Seamless Shopping Integration

The feature has been available in the U.S. since December 12th through:

  • Google Search
  • Google Shopping
  • Google Images

Simply look for the "Try On" button when browsing clothing items—no special apps required.

Beyond Virtual Fitting Rooms

Google isn't stopping at static images. Their standalone app Doppl recently launched an AI-generated "Shopable Discovery Feed" that suggests complete outfits based on personal style preferences. Each recommended item links directly to purchase options, blending inspiration with instant gratification.

Key Points:

  • Barrier-Free Trying: No more struggling with full-body photos—selfies work now
  • Realistic Previews: AI generates multiple angles showing how clothes actually fit
  • Inclusive Options: Choose from diverse body models or use your own avatar
  • Instant Gratification: See it, like it, buy it—all in one seamless experience
