Google's Gemini Hits 750 Million Users as AI Race Heats Up

Google's Gemini Surges Past 750 Million Users

Alphabet's latest financial results tell a clear story: Google is betting big on AI. The tech giant reported that its Gemini chatbot now serves over 750 million monthly active users - a staggering increase of 100 million from the previous quarter.

This explosive growth puts Gemini firmly in second place behind OpenAI's ChatGPT, which analysts estimate had about 810 million users by the end of 2025. "The newly launched Gemini 3 model has been a game-changer," said Google CEO Sundar Pichai during the earnings call. "Users consistently praise its ability to handle complex queries with nuance."

The Subscription Play

Not content with just growing its user base, Google is also accelerating monetization efforts. The company recently introduced Google AI Plus, a budget-friendly subscription tier priced at $7.99 per month. While this move hasn't yet impacted the current financials, executives are optimistic it will attract price-conscious consumers who've hesitated to pay for premium AI services.

Building the Infrastructure

The AI arms race isn't just about software. Google unveiled its next-generation Ironwood TPU chips, designed to reduce reliance on NVIDIA's hardware. These custom processors power Gemini's operations while giving Google more control over its AI destiny.

All these developments contributed to Alphabet crossing the $40 billion revenue mark for the first time - a milestone that underscores how central AI has become to Google's identity.

Key Points:

  • User growth explosion: Gemini added 100 million MAUs last quarter, narrowing ChatGPT's lead
  • Affordable access: New $7.99/month plan could democratize premium AI features
  • Hardware independence: Ironwood chips signal Google's push for self-reliance in AI infrastructure
  • Financial milestone: Alphabet surpasses $40 billion revenue as AI transforms its business model
