Chinese mobility giant Didi's autonomous driving unit has completed a 2 billion yuan ($280 million) Series D funding round, with participation from prominent investors including the Zhongguancun Science City Technology Growth Fund, Beijing Information Industry Development Investment Fund, and strategic partner GAC Group.

The fresh capital will be primarily allocated to:

Zhang Bo, CEO of Didi Autonomous Driving, emphasized: "L4 technology represents one of the most transformative AI applications this decade. Our decade of experience in AI R&D, mass production, and operations positions us uniquely to deliver safer, more efficient mobility solutions."

Testing Milestones Achieved

The company reports significant progress in 2025:

  • Completed fully driverless testing in Beijing and Guangzhou
  • Demonstrated reliability across challenging scenarios including:
    • Rush hour traffic conditions
    • Late-night operations
    • Adverse weather situations

The testing program has reportedly achieved 99.9% intervention-free performance during designated operational periods.

Commercialization Roadmap

Didi's partnership with GAC Aion is progressing toward a major milestone:

  • Joint development of pre-installed autonomous vehicles underway
  • First production models scheduled for late 2025 delivery
  • Initial deployment planned for Beijing and Guangzhou

The collaboration represents China's first large-scale effort to integrate autonomous systems directly into production vehicles rather than retrofitting existing models.
