Benchmark Dominance

The Baichuan-M2 scored 60.1 on the HealthBench evaluation, outperforming OpenAI's gpt-oss120b model (57.6) and other leading open-source models including Qwen3-235B and Deepseek R1. Notably, the model addresses critical privacy requirements for medical applications, supporting private deployment configurations that meet institutional security standards.

Technical Breakthroughs

Baichuan Intelligence has achieved remarkable efficiency with M2:

  • Single-card deployment on RTX4090 GPUs
  • Near-lossless precision after quantization
  • 57x cost reduction compared to dual-node DeepSeek-R1H20 deployments

The company also introduced a specialized Baichuan-M2MTP version optimized for time-sensitive medical applications like emergency care, achieving a 74.9% increase in token processing speed for single-user scenarios.

Beyond Medical Applications

Contrary to expectations of trade-offs, Baichuan-M2 shows improved performance in:

  • Mathematical reasoning
  • Instruction following
  • Creative writing

The model's general capabilities benefit from high-quality medical training data, demonstrating unexpected cross-domain improvements.

Complex Problem-Solving Parity with GPT-5

In the challenging HealthBench Hard evaluation:

  • GPT-5 previously claimed exclusive status with scores >32 points
  • Baichuan-M2 scored 34.7 points, becoming the second model worldwide to break this threshold

The achievement confirms Baichuan's position as a leader in medical AI research and development.

Key Points:

  1. 🏆 Benchmark leadership: Baichuan-M2 scores 60.1 on HealthBench, surpassing all open-source competitors
  2. 💰 Cost efficiency: Single-GPU deployment reduces costs by 57x versus alternatives
  3. Performance optimized: Specialized version boosts processing speed by 74.9%
  4. 🔍 Privacy-focused: Designed for secure private deployment in medical institutions
  5. 🧠 General intelligence: Maintains strong non-medical capabilities despite specialization
