A New Chapter in High-Performance Computing

In a move that could reshape the AI hardware landscape, AMD and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) have announced an expanded partnership focused on developing next-generation artificial intelligence infrastructure. At the heart of this collaboration lies AMD's innovative "Helios" architecture - an open-stack platform specifically engineered for massive AI workloads.

Powering the Future of AI

The Helios platform represents a significant leap forward in AI infrastructure. By integrating AMD's EPYC™ processors, Instinct™ GPUs, Pensando™ networking technologies, and ROCm™ software stack into a unified system, the partners aim to solve critical challenges in deploying large-scale AI clusters.

"This isn't just about raw power," explains Dr. Lisa Su, AMD's Chair and CEO. "With HPE as our long-standing partner, we're creating solutions that balance performance with practical deployment considerations."

The numbers speak volumes - each Helios rack can deliver up to 2.9 exaFLOPS of FP4 performance, thanks to components like the Instinct MI455X GPU and next-gen EPYC "Venice" processors. That's enough muscle to handle even the most demanding AI and high-performance computing tasks.

More Than Just Hardware

What makes this partnership particularly noteworthy is its comprehensive approach:

  • Open Standards: Built on Open Compute Project (OCP) principles
  • Custom Networking: HPE-developed Juniper switches ensure lightning-fast connections

The collaboration extends beyond Helios. HPE will also deploy a new supercomputer called "Herder" at Stuttgart University's High-Performance Computing Center by late 2027, featuring AMD's latest MI430X GPUs and Venice processors.
