Amazon's Nova 2 AI Models Push Boundaries With Web Search and Coding Built Right In

Amazon Debuts Game-Changing Nova 2 AI Models With Built-In Web Capabilities

At this year's re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) pulled back the curtain on its next-generation Nova2 AI models - and they're packing some serious innovations. These four new models don't just process information; they can actively seek it out online and even write their own code to solve problems.

Meet the Nova2 Family

The lineup includes something for nearly every AI need:

  • Nova2Lite: The budget-conscious choice that punches above its weight, outperforming competitors like Claude Haiku4.5 in most benchmarks while costing half as much as similar models.
  • Nova2Pro: Built for complex tasks, this model holds its own against premium offerings from Google and Anthropic in head-to-head comparisons.
  • Nova2Sonic: Lightning-fast speech processing with responses under 600ms - perfect for real-time applications.
  • Nova2Omni: The Swiss Army knife of AI models, handling text, images, video and audio simultaneously.

"What sets these apart is their ability to stay current," explains AWS CEO Adam Selipsky. "Instead of being limited to their training data, they can fetch today's news or stock prices when you ask."

Under the Hood

The real magic lies in two groundbreaking features:

  1. Live web search gives these models access to up-to-the-minute information
  2. Python code execution lets them analyze data or solve math problems on the fly

Thousands of companies already use earlier Nova versions for everything from content creation to automating complex workflows. With these upgrades, AWS expects adoption to skyrocket.

Democratizing Enterprise AI

Perhaps most intriguing is AWS's new "Nova Forge" service. For $100K/year, businesses can train custom versions using their proprietary data - potentially saving millions compared to building models from scratch.

"We're bringing elite AI capabilities within reach of mid-sized companies," notes Selipsky. "That's where we'll see real innovation blossom."

The Nova2 series rolls out globally starting January 2026, with pricing structured to undercut major competitors by 20-50% depending on usage volume.

Key Points:

  • Four new AI models cover everything from basic queries to complex multi-modal tasks
  • Built-in web search and code execution eliminate outdated information issues
  • Performance matches or beats competitors while costing significantly less
  • Custom training option makes enterprise-grade AI accessible to smaller businesses
