Amazon Lens Live Upgrades Shopping with AI-Powered Scanning

Amazon Lens Live Enhances Shopping with Real-Time AI Scanning

Amazon has unveiled a significant upgrade to its AI-powered shopping assistant, Amazon Lens Live, now available on its official platform. This feature revolutionizes the shopping experience by enabling real-time product scanning and precise matching, helping consumers effortlessly locate desired items.

How It Works

When users encounter a product—whether shared on social media or spotted offline—they can activate Amazon Lens Live within the Amazon shopping app. The phone's camera instantly scans the surroundings, eliminating the need for manual input. The system then displays a scrollable carousel of matched products at the bottom of the screen, complete with pricing, appearance, and other essential details.

The streamlined process allows users to explore product specifics—such as materials, specifications, and customer reviews—directly within the camera view. A simple tap adds items to the cart or saves them to a wishlist, significantly boosting shopping efficiency.

AI Integration: Rufus Provides Smart Insights

Beyond scanning, Amazon Lens Live integrates seamlessly with Amazon’s AI assistant, Rufus. Below the product carousel, Rufus generates context-aware questions like:

  • "Does this item support returns?"
  • "Are there any ongoing promotions?"

The assistant also summarizes key product benefits, aiding users in making informed decisions.

Behind the Technology

The feature leverages AWS-hosted services, including:

  • Amazon OpenSearch for scalable search capabilities.
  • Amazon SageMaker for deploying machine learning models.

The device-side computer vision model identifies products in real time, while a deep learning visual embedding system compares captured images against billions of listings on Amazon’s platform.

Availability

Currently rolling out to millions of iOS users in the U.S., Amazon plans to expand access nationwide in the coming months.

Key Points:

  • 🚀 One-click scanning: Instantly match products via camera.
  • 📲 Offline & social media integration: Identify items anywhere.
  • 🤖 Rufus-powered insights: Get tailored recommendations.
