Alibaba's Qoder AI Tool Expands Support to JetBrains IDEs

Alibaba's Qoder AI Programming Tool Expands JetBrains Support

Alibaba Group has announced that its AI-powered coding assistant Qoder will now provide native support for the full suite of JetBrains integrated development environments (IDEs). This significant update, rolling out this week, includes compatibility with popular tools like IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, and GoLand.

Enhanced Developer Features

The integration brings three major productivity enhancements:

  1. Agent Mode: Automatically selects the optimal AI model (Claude, GPT or Gemini) based on the developer's current task using automatic routing technology.
  2. Inline Chat: Enables real-time conversation with the AI assistant without leaving the coding environment.
  3. Intelligent Suggestions: Provides context-aware code completions specifically tuned for Java, Rust, Go and other supported languages.

Platform Architecture

Qoder positions itself as an "Agentic coding platform" that deeply integrates multiple large language models into actual software engineering workflows. Unlike standalone AI tools, it automatically handles model selection behind the scenes while maintaining a unified interface.

The system currently offers two access methods:

  • Full IDE plugin experience
  • Command Line Interface (CLI) version

Cross-Platform Availability

Following last week's release of a public beta for Linux x64 systems, this JetBrains compatibility marks Alibaba's continued expansion in developer tools. The move signals strong competition in the enterprise AI coding assistant space dominated by GitHub Copilot and Amazon CodeWhisperer.

Key Points:

  • 🚀 Native JetBrains IDE support launching this week
  • ⚡ Agent Mode eliminates manual model switching
  • 💬 Inline Chat enables conversational programming assistance
  • 🐧 Linux CLI version now in public beta
